About this place
One of Kikyou’s distinctive dishes is zaru ramen: noodles served with a dipping sauce, in the style of zaru soba. The menu includes shoyu and shio versions, as well as variations topped with seasoned egg, bean sprouts or meat. The noodles are dipped into a sauce flavoured with bonito and dried sardines. One diner who tried the shio zaru ramen singled out the fine noodles, generously topped with shredded nori, and the clear dipping broth, which balanced sweetness, saltiness and acidity. Choose zaru ramen for cold noodles with dipping sauce, or turn to miso or shoyu for a hot bowl of soup.
A diner who ordered the miso ramen praised the fragrance of the noodles and a flavour that brings together sweetness, roundness, saltiness and umami. The menu also features shio-paitan and spicy ramen alongside miso and shoyu, and some dishes let you choose between fine, Kitakata-style and extra-thick noodles. You can select the heat level of the spicy ramen: the menu lists up to 3 levels at no extra charge, followed by an additional 50 yen for every further 2 levels.
There is more to the menu than a bowl of noodles: small plates and drinks make it possible to linger over a few snacks, too. Gyoza comes grilled, boiled or with spicy miso, while the snack menu includes Yangon-style omelette, Myanmar curry and beef tendon with tofu. Beer, highballs and sake are among the drinks on offer. One option is to order a few snacks first, then finish with noodles.
Kikyou is open daily from 11:00 until 5:00 the following morning, making it an option for both lunch and a late meal.
